dg03_collective: Field Notes

Four Corners Gallery, Bethnal Green, London E2 0QN

Humans are essentially storytelling organisms.  We exist as fluid storied creations that evolve and move across time and space, fuelled by fusions of memories, feelings and experiences.

Tales of Unseen Stories (2026) explores the complex narrative relationships that exist within both photographic archives and the fictive, speculative imaginaries of self.

Evolving from a personal archive inherited from an enigmatic, unknowable uncle, the work combines rephotographed and reworked original slide images with a sound piece to reflect on the relational involvement, uncertainties, preoccupations and absences within both the photographic and the narrative self.

In a dark universe behind my eyes, images, voices, sensations exist in a void without substance.  They float, drift and teem along invisible currents.  Absorbed in less than a speck of dust, these traces of selves become strewn, reaching into objects, places and imaginations.

Never once me, they inhabit all matter of existence.  Evident in everything that has been touched, everything with which they have been joined.  Telling, revealing, seething, these constellations of formless, fleeting illusions tend to me, mend me, change me, gnaw at me, disturb and destroy me.

Illusions of Self  explores the nature of the inhabited spaces and objects remaining in my mother’s house after she passed away.
